In 1999, Lamb's Players produced the premiere of Tim Slover's historical backstage drama JOYFUL NOISE, about the surprising story behind the creation of one of the greatest works of all time, Handel's Messiah. The result was a runaway hit that traveled to New York for an extended run Off-Broadway and productions at other theatres around the nation.

Now for the first time in a decade, Lamb's Players is pleased to return to this witty, compelling look at the story behind one of the world's most beloved pieces of sacred music — whose journey to the stage was anything but sacred. Both George Fredrick Handel and singer Susannah Cibber are at the low point of their careers when a new libretto arrives unexpectedly on the composer's doorstep. Politics, piety, envy, scandal, and oversized egos collide and combust in this mesmerizing true story of heavenly art - and the very flawed humans who created it.

THANKSGIVING FESTIVITIES AT THE DEL

November 26, 2009

Coronado, CA — The Hotel del Coronado will kick off its holiday programs on Thanksgiving weekend, including fabulous dining options, seaside ice skating and the illumination of 100,000 white lights.

Dining

The Crown Room and Ballroom will feature classic Thanksgiving buffet dinners decked with all the trimmings, plus musical entertainment from 12pm to 6pm. Cost is $85 for adults, $37.50 for children ages 6-10 and free for children 5 and under. 1500 OCEAN, The Del ’s signature ocean view restaurant will offer a more intimate dining option from 4pm to 9pm. Skating by the Sea

The Hotel del Coronado is pleased to offer a unique Southern California experience – outdoor ice skating overlooking the Pacific Ocean . The oceanfront Windsor Lawn will be transformed into a spectacular ice rink with skating sessions offered daily from November 25 to January 3. A portion of the skating proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of San Diego .

Local musician Kathleen Hartshorne and her band Celtic Echoes is scheduled to play at the Annual Open House for Scottish Treasures Celtic Corner on November 28, 2009, from 10 to 5 p.m. at the Coronado Ferry Landing.

Celtic Echoes features Kathleen on the harp and vocals, with Bill Lee on mandolin and vocals and Rebecca Lindquist on fiddle. Entertainment will also be provided by Larry Samuels, a top notch bagpiper who will kick off the festivities around 10 a.m. with traditional bagpiping tunes at the pier and near the shop. Of course no event would be complete without the talents of the kids from the San Diego School of Highland Dancing and Fearon – O’Connor School of Irish Dancing. They will perform at 11:30 and 2 p.m.

Jim Logan, owner of Scottish Treasures Celtic Corner, has planned this event as a way to say thank you to Coronado and the surrounding communities for supporting the store for the past 11 years. “We can best show our gratitude by having a party with great entertainment, delicious food, Scottish hospitality, and best ever sales event.”

You will find Jim wearing his kilt in the store on most occasions “We will give every gentleman wearing a kilt 10% off his purchase on November 28.” Jim says there are quite a few men with kilts around Coronado many of whom have supported the shop over the years.

Marjorie and Tricia have just returned from five weeks in Scotland where they spent many days finding new merchandise for the store. “We have our best stock of baby sweaters in years” says Marjorie. There are many locals who come by regularly looking for baby shower gifts. “This is the time to stock up.”

Some of the other new items are plaid silk scarves, Harris Tweed stoles with Celtic embrodiery, handbags, and many vintage items -- all are made in Scotland .

With the holidays just around the corner, the store is completely stocked with imported British food complete with plum puddings, clotted cream, cakes, and boxed chocolates.
